Bullpen spoils great Gonzalez start


Enrique Gonzalez might just be able to do it all, as he led the Diamondbacks to a 2-1 win over the visiting Mariners in front of 20,564 at Chase Field.

The Arizona bullpen has been particularly ineffective in the D-Backs' current slide, in which they have lost 19 times in the last 22 games entering Thursday's game.

D-Backs' early hole too much vs. Rays


Once again, the Diamondbacks dug themselves an early hole that they weren't able to completely escape from as they fell, 3-2, to the Devil Rays on Wednesday night at Tropicana Field.

Melvin ejected for arguing balls and strikes (AP)


Arizona manager Bob Melvin was ejected for arguing balls and strikes during the fifth inning of the Diamondbacks' game against the Tampa Bay Devil Rays on Wednesday night. Melvin was tossed by plate umpire Angel Hernandez when he bolted from the dugout after Tampa Bay's Aubrey Huff lined a one-out double into the gap in right field with the Devil Rays' leading 3-2.

Notes: Roster shuffle continues


The Diamondbacks roster shuffling continued on Wednesday as they placed veteran pitchers Russ Ortiz and Terry Mulholland on unconditional release waivers and recalled reliever Casey Daigle.

Devil Rays 3, Diamondbacks 2 (AP)


James Shields kept the Arizona Diamondbacks guessing all game. The Tampa Bay rookie allowed four hits in seven innings and became the first Devil Rays pitcher to begin his career with four straight victories by beating the slumping Diamondbacks 3-2 on Wednesday night. "He's nasty. What he does is he changes speed," catcher Toby Hall said of the 24-year-old right-hander.

The Diamondbacks' first-inning woes continued as they fell behind early before falling to the Rangers, 8-4, on Saturday night in front of 41,165 at Ameriquest Field.

Notes: Road is no sore sight


Usually a team will look forward to returning home after a road trip, but after the way the last 10 days in the Valley of the Sun went for the Diamondbacks, getting out on the road could be the best thing that happened to them.

Webb struggles, late rally falls short


A three-run first-inning deficit proved to be too much for the Diamondbacks to overcome despite a late rally, as they fell, 5-3, to the Rangers in an Interleague game on Friday night in front of 28,167 at Ameriquest Field.
